After several false starts, mostly having to do with the Windows computer I was using for our video editing, I finally broke down and bought a new quad processor iMac and finished up the first episode in our 52 week video documentary of the Social Print Experiment.
A few notes about the video.
First, we are using Flip HD Video cameras. These are high definition video cameras that cost around $150 each. We have three of them that I use around the production office and at impromptu times (like when I’m driving to meet a customer). They’re great for recording video, and when I’ve filled up a camera, I plug the USB arm into the Mac and import my clips right into iMovie.
Second, it’s a low budget project. It’s not fancy editing or slick graphics; it’s all about how we are accomplishing the tasks we set out to do. No fancy lav mikes here, just three guys in a Highly Optimized Production Space (otherwise known as a closet) so the sound carries pretty well through to the camera. There is no script, just off-the-cuff discussion of what we are working on and the jobs we are printing. By the way, if you’ve been sending us work, we are careful to disguise what the work is and who it’s for, unless we’ve obtained permission from you previously.
Third, we will have guests from time to time on camera. If you’re one of those folks who comes to visit, please note that you will need to sign a model release prior to entering the HOPS.
I’m sure that as we produce more of these videos, our style will get better. This is only my second video that I have ever produced, so go easy on the comments

Andrew: I don’t think apologies are needed – that shows some skill — and also how far our “Pro-sumer” equipment and software has come these days.
I’m not sure this falls under the same “documentary” category, but in case some here haven’t seen it…. behold the infamous “I Love Printing” movie:

A bit…uh… edgier… but still a classic.
Are there any other print-related videos or series are out there, documenting how to build and run a print business?
The take home lesson for printers: promotion and product education doesn’t have to be expensive – in terms gear or time.
